چکیده

Chronic hypertension caused by unilateral constriction of the renal artery in the presence of the opposite untouched kidney can be produced in the dog by progressive plication of the renal artery over a period of several hours. Twentythree female dogs were studied. Mean arterial blood pressure was measured in the unanesthetized recumbent dog by direct puncture of the femoral artery. Reproducible control blood pressure readings were obtained only after daily training of the animals for at least 2 months. Mean arterial blood pressure for the whole group of animals was 98.25 ± 7.45 (SD) mm Hg prior to constriction. Three months after constriction, the mean arterial blood pressure of the group of dogs with a 50-63* reduction in renal blood flow was 132.4 ±5.51 (SD) mm Hg (P < 0.001); for the group with a 78-86% reduction in renal blood flow it was 144.68 ± 10.68 (SD) mm Hg ( P < 0.001). Six dogs from these two groups underwent ipsilateral nephrectomies 4—16 months after constriction, and their elevated arterial blood pressures returned to preconstriction normal values. It was concluded that this type of experimental hypertension in the dog is renal dependent in both the acute and the chronic stages.

Persistent hypertension in the dog following disruption of the carotid sinus nerves and subsequent unilateral renal artery constriction.

CONSTRICTION of one renal artery in the dog does not as a rule produce sustained hypertension. Removal of the contralateral kidney, or bilateral renal artery constriction is necessary for the production of permanent hypertension. On the other hand, sustained hypertension may be produced regularly in the rat by unilateral renal artery constriction. Tt has been postulated that, in the rat, long s...

Sequential renal hemodynamics in experimental benign and malignant hypertension.

To examine the sequential renal hemodynamic changes in experimental renovascular hypertension, the uninephrectomized dog was studied immediately after renal artery constriction, throughout chronic benign hypertension, and during malignant hypertension. Intrarenal resistance fell immediately after renal artery constriction, but rose above control within hours. Intrarenal infusion of teprotide re...

The Effect of Altered Renal Perfusion Pressure

Controversy persists regarding the role of tubular reabsorption and secretion in the renal handling of digoxin. To determine the effect of reduction in renal perfusion pressure and blood flow on digoxin clearance during acute and chronic digoxin administration, renal clearances of digoxin and inulin were measured in pentobarbital-anesthetized dogs before and after repeated unilateral renal arte...

Histological Study of the Elastic Artery, Muscular Artery, and Their Junction in Neonate Dog

Introduction: We did this study because there were a few studies about aorto-branch junction. Methods: Four light microscope and electron microscope study, the abdominal aorta, renal artery, and the adjoining right and left renal arteries were dissected out from 4 neonate dogs. Results: Based on the results, there is only one cell type in the tunica intima of endothelium in both art...

Genetic influence on the renin-angiotensin system: low renin activities in hypertension-prone rats.

Two strains of rats with opposite, genetically determined predispositions to hypertension were compared. Rats from the hypertension-prone strain had significantly lower plasma and kidney renin activities than did rats from the hypertension-resistant strain. Although renin activities were modified by NaCl intake and blood pressure, significant differences between the two strains were present wit...
